Our Origin: From Toronto to Haiti

For over a decade, our founder, Serena Bufalino, dedicated her life to supporting at-risk youth in Toronto, advocating for students facing mental health challenges, neglect, and addiction.

The vision for Help Heal Humanity was birthed within the walls of the Toronto District School Board. Serena’s students wanted to reach beyond their own borders, leading to the "Haiti School Building Project." Under the motto “Something local, something global,” these students raised over $200,000 to build a school from the ground up in Canaan, Haiti.

Canaan was born out of the 2010 earthquake: a suburb of a million people living in tent-like structures without consistent access to water or power. In 2018, we opened the doors to our school, providing 126 fully sponsored students with the books, nourishment, and education they need to thrive.

Mother Teresa

We have always known that "It takes a village to raise a child." our success is inseparable from the relationships we build, whether with local vendors, partner organizations, donors, volunteers, and the communities themselves. Help Heal Humanity is not something we do to people. It is something we build together.

This is still just the beginning.
