Building Leaders, Serving Community

Supported by a generous $15,000grant from City Councillor Tammy Hwang, this program is designed to equip students with the confidence and skills to lead both within their schools and far beyond. Our members don't just learn about community - they build it.

Our club at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School has become a community hub powered by strategic partnerships with the City of Hamilton and McMaster University. Together, we are helping to heal humanity, one student and one community at a time

City-wide data show that about one in four Hamilton households is now experiencing food insecurity, a sharp increase in recent years.Studies of local food-bank use also find that families turning to food banks are “the poorest of the poor,” often with children at home. Ward 4 is one of the areas most affected by these trends.

For Churchill students, this means:

  • Teens arriving at school hungry or under-nourished, struggling to focus, regulate emotions, and engage in learning

  • Families unable to cover extra costs for graduation fees, prom, spirit wear, team fees, field trips, or media/film projects

  • Limited household capacity to help purchase basic classroom supplies, clothing for co-op or job interviews, and participation fees for sports and clubs

Recognizing these needs, Serena Bufalino, HHH’s CEO & full time teacher at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School initiated a partnership with COBS Bread Stoney Creek and Help Heal Humanity to:

  • Provide ongoing nutrition support for Churchill students

  • Build a sustainable, community-driven model where local businesses directly uplift local youth

  • Ensure transparent coordination, distribution, and reporting through HHH

COBS Bread Stoney Creek has formally committed to donating all end-of-day leftover bread and baked goods every Tuesday evening. These donations are delivered directly to Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and used to support the school’s Wednesday morning nutrition program, ensuring that students begin their day with access to fresh, nourishing food. Through this weekly contribution, COBS Bread is helping address food insecurity within the Ward 4 community and strengthening the school’s capacity to care for its most vulnerable students.

No act of kindness is small when it changes a life.
